Setting up the VFW Hall for the 9-11 Memorial Dinner

VFW Auxiliary member Jessie Mahoney’s High School Students Volunteered to help out at the VFW and were a huge help in setting up the VFW Hall for the 9-11 Memorial Dinner.

Mahoney is a teacher at the West Brunswick High School. Her students are enrolled in a program that helps them get ready to enter a trade school or the workforce after graduation. They are encouraged to get involved with their community by volunteering for community service. In fact they earn points for this activity that count toward graduation. 

Her students are enrolled in a program called “The Occupational Course of Study”. This program teaches practical life learning skills like resume writing and post graduation job searching. It offers students opportunities for a one year work study internship at Novant Hospital called "Project Search", often leading to employment at the hospital afterwards.  Volunteering for community service also teaches them responsibility and teamwork, essential skills to be successful in any endeavor.
